Countdown to Como

  • Giardino

2016 is an exciting year for everyone at le Sereno. More than ten years after our opening in one of the world’s most exclusive destinations, we’re now just months away from the official launch of our second property, il Sereno. The location, albeit 7,200 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean from St. Barths, is equally exclusive and luxurious: Italy’s legendary Lake Como.

Scheduled for opening in Summer 2016, il Sereno Lago di Como will build on the unique formula that has propelled its Caribbean counterpart to ongoing success: relaxed privacy, understated elegance, and inspiring design. Stylish and peaceful, it promises to add a whole new flavor of luxury to the area’s prestigious collection of lakeside hotels.

To mark the one-year countdown to the grand opening, we’ve created a preview of our newest luxury sanctuary. Let your imagination run free as we detail your 2016 Italian getaway.

Location

  • Il sereno views

Widely known as the preferred playground for Europe’s aristocrats and modern glitterati, Lake Como is as glamorous as it is gorgeous. Set to a backdrop of the Southern Alps’ snow-covered peaks and sprawling valleys, its shoreline is scattered with some of Europe’s most elegant architecture—from elaborate villas to centuries-old cathedrals to historic villages. Walk through the area’s picturesque gardens or storied towns and it becomes abundantly clear why Lago di Como has been a coveted gem ever since the Roman times; this is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beautiful settings.

Il Sereno is located on a scenic promontory along the lake’s eastern shoreline, offering stunning views over the glistening water, dramatic mountains, and the adjacent village of Torno. It’s also a short six mile drive from the popular city of Como. Though driving is the common mode of transportation, guests can arrive to il Sereno in style by boat—thanks to the hotel’s private docking facility, where we will also organize the guests’ experience and transportation needs around the lake.

We’re excited to announce that we have already received the first hand-made wooden motorboat for use by clients that know how to operate it. And we have commissioned with Cantiere Riva the building of a traditional wooden Vaporina, a hand made water-limousine—with interiors by Patricia Urquiola—for transporting our clients around the lake.

As for travel planning, il Sereno is located roughly an hour’s drive away from both of Milan’s major airports, Malpensa and Linate. It’s also less than an hour from both Lugano and central Milan, perfect for those who want to experience the iconic attractions of Europe’s fashion capital during their stay .

Design

  • Il Sereno Pool

The essence of le Sereno—an intimate setting with a cutting edge design—lives on as we expand across the Atlantic. Guests of il Sereno will be treated to the same sense of privacy and place enjoyed in St. Barths, while experiencing some of the world’s most stunning scenery directly from their secluded terrace.

The pedigree of designer also remains, with Christian Liaigre’s vision for St. Barths perpetuated by the prowess of Patricia Urquiola for Lake Como. Patricia was recently recognized as “Designer of the Year” by Wallpaper magazine and is widely regarded as one of the leading designers of her generation.

She is also behind the products of many of the world’s leading design houses, like B&B Italia, Alessi, Kartell, Baccarat, Rosenthal, Axor, BMW, Molteni, Flos, Boffi, Louis Vuitton and Moroso to name a few. Rejecting the Neo-Renaissance or faux classic inspirations widely seen throughout the region, Urquiola’s intention was to create a contemporary sanctuary with a sense of timeless elegance, complete with natural materials, refined decor, and understated sophistication.

The result is a design and ambience that is unlike any other in this region renowned for luxury hotels. Thanks to our deliberately small size—a mere 30 suites—visiting guests will escape to a lake refuge tailor-made for privacy and relaxation.

Be it in our spacious bedrooms (the smallest room is over 650 sq-ft), private terraces, secluded gardens, 60-foot infinity pool, or restricted sundeck, there is not a single space on property without a panoramic view of Lago di Como.

In short, it’s a whole new brand of Italian hospitality.

Cuisine

  • fine-art-america

A promising culinary destination for hotel guests and locals alike, il Sereno’s terrace restaurant is another Patricia Urquiola creation that sits directly on the water. The restaurant will take inspiration and ingredients from the nearby regions of Valtellina, Lake, and the Milanese Plateau to serve simple and delicious creations on the waterfront.

Imagine perfectly executed Italian cuisine. Imagine an atmosphere with the sophistication of nearby Milan and the glamour of Como. Imagine a balmy summer night with exquisite wine and natural evening lighting past 10pm. All this and more awaits at il Sereno Restaurant.
